Open-mic night – 1st April 2013
A warm thanks to Barney Sheehan for entertaining us all on Monday with his first full reading (Can you believe it?). He delivered a fine, lyrical and incantatory rendition from a spectrum of his life’s work – over fifty years’ worth. The Whitehouse are now just short of 500 events, the only other poetry venue on the island that has a weekly event. Barney has compèred most, to almost all of them, and as his poetry is a very private affair his craftsmanship has remained vastly underrated. You can listen to the early part of the reading here.
Thanks to Billy Ramsell for giving shape to the evening, and to all on the open-mic, Katrina Stovold, Mary O’Connell, Emily Davis-Fletcher, Seamus Harrington, Gerry Murphy, Richard Hawtree, Cedric Bikond Nkoma and Daw Harding.
Richard Hawtree was this week’s Five Word Chllenge winner. Sláinte Richard!
With winter fairies still on the prowl, we only managed to get the open-mic recording up until Seamus. It’s right here.
